Edit Guide Travel Insurance:
As an international student, you will automatically be enrolled in both the university’s basic and extended insurance plans. The basic insurance is meant to temporarily cover you before you are able to enroll in British Columbia’s public health insurance program (MSP). The extended plan will cover things like prescriptions, dental, and eye care.
Flying Chalks’ tips:
- Be sure to apply for MSP immediately upon arriving as there is a waiting period and you do not want to end up spending time without coverage. Medical care can be very expensive without insurance coverage.
- If you are spending time in Canada before or after your study term in UBC (outside of the university’s insurance coverage period), be sure to get yourself sufficient travel insurance coverage!
