Transportation

Transportation

Unfortunately, Las Vegas does not have a well-developed public transportation system. There are no train, railway or metro systems in Las Vegas. The only form of public transportation is the city bus. The bus is reliable most of the time, but students generally have all their needs met within walking distance of UNLV’s campus.

The only nearby towns are North Las Vegas and Henderson. Henderson is 30 minutes away from UNLV’s campus and is accessible by taxi or bus. North Las Vegas is about 45 minutes away and accessible by taxi or bus.

A semester pass can be purchased for UNLV students for $104 USD. For more information, you can check: http://www.rtcsnv.com/transit/fare-information/unlv-transit-pass/

Flying Chalks’ tip: The use of Uber has become a sensation amongst college students because it is cheap, reliable and much more comfortable than taking the bus. Since UNLV sits in the heart of Las Vegas, most students will not have to travel too far to get to their desired destination.

Wells Fargo, Bank of America, US Bank, Chase, Citibank, HSBC are all popular and reliable banks in Las Vegas. There is also a Bank of America within walking distance.

Advisors for international students should be able to help in finding the best bank to suit the student’s needs. Many banks have close relationships with schools to help their students and their banking needs.

Flying Chalks’ recommendation:

  • Wells Fargo is recommended for international students because of the proximity (with one located just across the street on Maryland Parkway) and abundance of locations around the city and the United States.
Post Office

Post Office Services

Sending postage within the United States is very affordable and can be performed at any United States Postal Office (USPS), FedEx, UPS, or other mailing store. There is a USPS and UPS across the street from UNLV.

Check UPS or FedEx. You can also locate the nearest USPS by visiting this website and inserting your zip code.

Flying Chalks’ tip: Prices will increase drastically when packages need to be sent in a short amount of time. Hence, do plan ahead!
