Travel insurance:

1. National Health Insurance Program
All International students staying in Japan for 12 months or more must apply for the National Health Insurance Program. The National Health Insurance Program is a medical insurance program that allows you to receive treatment and examinations at medical institutions in case of accidents or injuries. The National Health Insurance will cover about 70% of the total medical cost incurred. The remaining 30% can be covered for by the Rikkyo Student Mutual-Aid Insurance.

2. Student’s Comprehensive Renters Insurance

Starting from the 2010 academic year, the Japan National Health Insurance plan (NHI) and Student’s Comprehensive Renters Insurance are applicable to all exchange students at APU and therefore mandatory for all students to purchase. Renters Insurance is approximately JPY 3,000/ semester and JPY 5,000/ year. Students who wish to purchase extra insurance policies are welcome to do so. Insurance premium will be collected after arrival.

3. The 3 most popular insurance companies amongst outbound Singaporean students are DirectAsia, AIG/ Chartis.
