I really enjoyed my time at HKU. I managed to get a room in one of the halls, which allowed me to experience hall life and make more local friends. 70% of the students in my hall were locals. We also had hall meetings every week which allowed us to interact with them. My hall was only a 30 minute walk from campus, or a 10 minute bus ride. There was no supermarket near the hall. However, Wellcome in Westwood near campus has almost everything you need.

HKU has a vibrant campus life. Student life is very active, which was an eye opening experience. The students are very friendly, but they are also highly competitive. There is a strong result-oriented culture there. I managed to take quite some modules that catered to my interests outside of my major. Exchange has given me a more global perspective on life. It even made me consider working overseas in the future.

I was interested in doing my exchange in Hong Kong because I wanted to educate myself on Hong Kong’s financial law. It was especially relevant as Hong Kong is a major global financial hub. Teaching in the university is mainly lecture-based, which was different from the seminar-based teaching in my home university. However, I enjoyed most of my modules and learnt a lot during my time in HKU. I also attended additional seminars organised by the Asian Institute of Financial Law, which were highly informative.
