Accommodation:

The main housing providers for Aalto University students are
1. HOAS – the Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region. Website here.

Your admission letter package contains more information on how and when to apply for housing. Students may be allocated to different housing providers hence different locations however, you may send a request to Aalto if you wish to stay with your friend.

The typical types of apartments available for exchange students would be:

• Room in shared apartment
• Shared room in shared apartment
• Private studio
• Shared studio

Common neighborhoods offered to Aalto School of Business students:

Kamppi
In Kamppi, private studio apartments and shared studio apartments are offered. Prices may be slightly steeper for the amount of space. From there, you can easily get access to supermarkets in the Kamppi shopping mall.

Kannelmaki
In Kannelmaki, a room in shared apartments is typically offered. Room is spacious and neighborhood is quiet. 15 minutes train ride to the central railway station and 30 minutes bus ride to school. A 2 minutes’ walk to Alepha and 10-15 minutes’ walk away from Prisma one of the biggest supermarkets.

Pohjois-Haaga (Ida Aalbergin)
In Ida, a room in shared apartments is typically offered. Room and common area is slightly smaller but sufficient, offered at the lowest price out of all the student accommodations. 10 minutes train ride to central railway station and 20 minutes bus ride to school. 5 minutes’ walk to Alepha, 10 minutes’ walk away from Prisma supermarket and 10 minutes away from K-supermarket.

Vuosaari
In Vuosaari, a room in shared apartments is typically offered. Room is spacious with big common areas including a private sauna in each apartment. It will be a 20 minutes’ metro ride to the Kamppi metro stop followed by a 5 minutes’ walk to school. K-supermarket is located at the Vuosaari metro stop, which is a 10 minutes’ walk away from the hostel.

Flying Chalk’s recommendations:

• For convenience, Kamppi area would be the most ideal as it is just 5 minutes’ walk away from school.
• Ida Aalbergin apartments would be highly recommended for the value for money aspect!
