1. Dormitory
More than 50% of CUHK undergraduates reside in over 20 hostels of the different colleges. On-campus accommodation is guaranteed for non-local undergraduates, exchange students and research postgraduate students where each student will be assigned to double or triple-occupancy rooms with local roommates. These local students will be vital in helping you settle in at CUHK and immerse into the Chinese culture!

2. Apartment/ Room rental
With Hong Kong being one of the most densely populated places in the World, it comes with no surprise that any rooms that you rent are likely to be much smaller in size relative to the price paid as compared to most other countries.

I had a great time on exchange at CUHK. Hong Kong is similar to my home country Singapore but at the same time quite different. The main streets near Nathan Road are almost always congested with people. The people here also walk very fast. It’s a norm to eat alone and share tables with other strangers in restaurants as well. Some good places to go to for food are Cha Kha in Sheung Wan and Initial Café in Tsim Sha Tsui.

HK is a vibrant city bustling with activity at all times of the day. It’s generally quite safe to travel around, even at night. Minibuses run from Mongkok to CUHK from 12-6am for about S$3 a ride. They are a convenient and affordable option if you’re getting back after a late night out. My exchange at CUHK was very enjoyable. The campus is located away from the city, and has a good view of the Shatin Sea and Tolo Harbour. There are many activities to participate in on campus, so you can have a pretty active student life.

Hong Kong is an awesome city that has a lot to offer for everyone. Campus life was fun as well! I was allocated a triple room in CW Chu College, sharing with 2 other local students. They became the friends I was closest to in Hong Kong, apart from friends from my home uni. I highly recommend this college! They tend to pair exchange students with local students. This way, you’ll be able to get to know more about the local culture in HK, as well as the best places to go to. The local students I met were all super friendly and helpful I was also allocated a buddy whom I met with often for food and shopping.
