Accommodation:
Monash has its own halls of residence and they are located just a ten-minute walk from the campus. Monash’s accommodation is situated near shops and restaurants, and it also has community areas to meet and socialise with other students. The residences on campus often organise social events and programs throughout the year to promote inclusiveness and belonging. Participating in these events is a great way to form bonds with your peers!
The cost will vary depending on whether you decide to stay in a single or shared apartment. Standard single rooms in a hall of residence start from AUD$230 a week, and will include basic amenities like a bed, desk, mirror and heating/air-conditioning. Utilities and Wi-Fi access is included in the rent.
Flying Chalks’ tip: It is cheaper to rent a shared apartment with your peers. There are plenty near the university campuses. You can easily find roommates at flatmates.com or gumtree.com.
You must be willing to do your fair share of household chores and cooking when sharing an apartment. Rent is definitely cheaper if you’re staying outside of the city. However, travel time to school is longer.
