Tampere University of Technology (TUT) is located in the town of Tampere, Finland. TUT offers a range of classes with different levels to choose from. Students studying material science, electronics, and control engineering will enjoy manyhands on opportunities at university’s excellent facilities, and gaining valuable experience as a result. Learning the language is a common and popular choice with the students here – the basic Finnish language course is extremely fun and enriching. The teachers are passionate and friendly, and will not hesitate to answer any queries on their subject matter. All modules for exchange students are taught in English.

The town of Tampere may seem quiet initially but you will find that it is actually bustling with activities all year round. There is a wide range of activities, from free jamming sessions at the city library, to knitting classes at old factories. There is never a dull moment in Tampere if you know what to look out for! Trekking through the surrounding forest may seem daunting at first, but if you manage to find the Pyyniki Tower, you will definitely not regret the decision to take the first step! The viewing platform offers an amazing view of the whole town and lake - a sight not to be missed! Each season will offer you different feels and experiences. They will definitely be key moments engraved in your memory even if you fail to catch the memorable sunsets and sunrises.

Located approximately 200km north of the capital city, Helsinki, Tampere tends to be colder throughout the year. Summers are usually wet with frequent rain while during winter, temperatures may drop to below zero degree Celsius.  But for the adventurous, nothing beats having a crazy dip in the freezing lake between saunas to refresh your mind and take away the fatigue from travels. The people in Finland are known to be quiet and reserved, but I found that they could be more exuberant than perceived. They are very friendly and will definitely help you out should you approach them. Communication is not an issue as almost everyone can speak English so please do have a chitchat with the welcoming locals to find out more about the local culture!
