Renowned for its vibrant culture, incredible cuisine and being the home of the K-Pop phenomenon, South Korea is the dream destination for many. The country also boasts affordable school fees and a low cost of living. We delve into the costs required to study in Korea for you.

1. Tuition Fees

Tuition fees at Korean universities can cost as little as  US$3,000 a year, to that of US$10,000 a year, with the average at about US$7,000 a year. The tuition fees will depend on the type of program you choose and whether it is a private or public university. For reference, tuition fees in the US, UK or Australia will usually cost you at least US$15,000, up to US$40,000 a year.

2. Accommodation Fees

Most students would usually stay in one of the following three: school dormitories, Goshiwons (aka one-roomtel), or studio apartments. Goshiwons and school dormitories typically cost between US$250 - $400 a month. Studio Apartments on the other hand will usually cost between US$700 - $1,000 a month. However, do note that most landlords will require a minimum of 6 months security deposit that can range from US$4,000 to US$10,000 or more for studio apartments.

3. Living Expenses

Living expenses include food, transportation, and miscellaneous costs such as shopping and entertainment. Just like the cost of accommodation, living expenses will largely depend on the student's lifestyle. A regular meal at the school canteen will cost you about US$3 - $5 per meal and a regular ride on the bus or subway will cost you a little more than US$1.

Generally, food and transport will cost you about US$500 - $800 a month, which is very affordable when compared to other countries like Australia and the UK where it will cost you minimally US$1,000 - $1,500 a month.
