The cost of studying and living in Australia can vary quite significantly by the State and City. Today, we will break down the average cost of living in some of the popular states and cities so that you can decide where your budget lies!

In first place, the most expensive city to live in Australia would be Sydney, New South Wales. The average amount spent by students has been reported to be around AUD$2,600 a month. This city is home to the University of Sydney, which ranks within the Top 3 universities in Australia.

In second place, the vibrant and artistic city of Melbourne, Victoria, has an average cost of living for international students at AUD$2,500 per month. The University of Melbourne, ranked 4th amongst all universities in Australia, is located in the city.

 

3. Perth, Western Australia

4. Brisbane, Queensland

The third and fourth places are tied between Perth and Brisbane, in Western Australia and Queensland respectively, with an average spend of AUD$2,300 per month. These cities are more affordable options, while offering some of the top universities in Australia, such as the University of Queensland. 

 

5. Adelaide, South Australia

In fifth place would be Adelaide, in South Australia, with an average spend of AUD$1,800 per month. Adelaide is frequently ranked as one of the most affordable cities in Australia, making it a more cost-effective option for students looking to study in Australia.
