With students from all around the world heading to Australia, it is important to get acquainted with the accommodation options available. Find the perfect fit for your stay in Australia!

There are generally three accommodation types in Australia for international students: college dormitories, student accommodations and private houses.

1. College Dormitories

The first and most popular one is staying on campus at a college dorm. This allows students to save time by being close to campus and having meals provided. It is also attractive to students because of the social scene that colleges promote. You will make lifelong friends by living in a college.

2. Student Accommodations

The arrangement that is commonly chosen is student accommodation managed by accommodation providers like SCAPE, HIVE, UniLodge and Iglu. These are also close to campus and have shared laundry rooms and kitchens, but give you more privacy. In this kind of accommodation, you will need to prepare your meals.

3. Private Houses

The third accommodation that is popular is to rent an apartment or house privately and split the cost with flat-mates. Many people choose to move in with their existing friends, but many sites can help you find flat-mates in Australia such as "flatmatefinder.com.au", or a simple post in one of the university's Facebook groups.

The costs for living in the accommodation vary according to the state, the location and the facilities and services offered. In general, living in a college dorm or in a private house would be more affordable than choosing to stay in a student accommodation.
