For me, I’ve always wanted to study at the University of Queensland. Not only is it a beautiful campus located in the inner western suburbs of Brisbane, but it is also Queensland’s most prestigious university. 

My name is Aurelia and I have just finished my first year of University studying a bachelor of Business Management as of November 2022. I chose to study a Bachelor of Business Management knowing that I would love to start my own business in the future. I have decided to do a double major in marketing and international business and also extend my degree by an extra year so I can learn a couple of different languages as electives in my course. I chose to go to UQ because it was the closest University to me and also due to my parents having studied law and a masters of law at UQ. 
 

The options to plan and study for your degree at UQ are very good. You can choose for a business management degree to enrol internally or externally meaning that you can choose to be on campus or online. The freedom that comes with being able to tailor your degree and pick a learning path that suits your needs has really helped me to take charge in my learning journey. The structure at my university is one lecture and one tutorial a week, which is overall between 2-4 contact hours a week. A full-time student is expected to study between 20-40 hours a week overall. This is around 4 to 10 hours a week per subject, inclusive of contact hours. Because of the need to take introductory courses in my first year, I found that I had to study more for subjects that I wasn’t very good at and didn’t want to major in. The introductory courses definitely helped me to identify which majors would or wouldn’t be of interest to me. 

Life on campus is fantastic at UQ. I can safely say that there is a club for everyone. I am a member of many different clubs at uni like the Latin American Student Association (LASA) because they usually have good salsa and dancing events at the local clubs and bars in Brisbane as well as different language conventions for both Spanish and Portuguese. I am also a part of the UQ economics club which hosts different events to do with large Australian Banks and finance corporations where we have the opportunities to network with a diverse group of people working in finance. They also host mixer events at different bars across Brisbane so that we can meet like minded people and spend time with our peers. In the future, I will definitely be joining the UQ surfing club because they host occasional trips to places like Noosa, Byron Bay (Chris Hemsworth’s hometown!!!), the Gold Coast and other world famous surfing spots for the day and even for a weekend away. It is also a tradition for first years to go to the inaugural UQ toga party which is hosted at the end of orientation week at the start of semester 1, where everyone is expected to come dressed in a toga and there is live music, food and drinks. 

My biggest tips for succeeding at University in Australia would be to make friends with people in your classes and lectures. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. Australia is a very social country with a large drinking culture so it is common to find a couple of bars on campus. My next tip would be to find the best study spots around campus. The best study spot in my opinion is a beautiful building called the Global Change Institute (GCI building 20). It has beautiful greenery, it’s quiet and isn’t too busy, so to me it’s the perfect place to study. 

My final tip would be to enjoy the beautiful campus that the University of Queensland has to offer. UQ is lined with the iconic Jacaranda tree which blooms in spring and covers the Great Court with purple flowers.

The Great Court is the heart of UQ and is one of the best places to hang out before and after class. Not only is it beautiful with trees, wooden benches and the sandstone arches and structures, but it also hosts many events. 

UQ creates a great environment to succeed. Not only are there six libraries on campus, but also a plethora of places to study in different buildings like the Global Change Institute as mentioned and even outside in the Great Court. Many different faculties have their own libraries such as the BioScience library, Law Library and the Engineering library. 

Overall, UQ is an amazing place to study. From the teaching staff, to the campus itself and all the people and clubs within it, I would highly recommend visiting the University of Queensland if you have the chance!

Ma détermination à poursuivre mes ambitions m’a mené à choisir l’Université de Queensland qui cherche à servir le bien public par le biais de l'excellence dans l'éducation et la recherche. L'Université de Queensland est non seulement un membre fondateur du ‘Group of 8’ et la meilleure Université à Queensland, elle est aussi localisée à Brisbane qui est caractérisée comme étant la capitale baignée de soleil. 

Je m’appelle Aurélia Byrne et je viens d’achever ma première année de licence en Business Management en Novembre. J’ai décidé de poursuivre mes études en Business pourvu que j’aimerai entrer dans le domaine de l’entreprenariat avec pour but de créer ma propre entreprise. J’ai décidé de me spécialiser en affaires internationales et marketing mais aussi de prolonger mes études ce qui permettra d’apprendre une nouvelle langue. 
 

J’ai choisi l'Université de Queensland étant donné qu’elle est à proximité de moi mais aussi parce que mes parents ont tous deux fait leurs études à UQ. 

Les spécialisations et différents parcours possibles à UQ offrent une grande flexibilité et conduisent à de très bonnes opportunités. L’option entre présentiel ou à distance est donnée aux élèves. La liberté de choisir entre différents parcours m’a permis de mener mon propre chemin d’apprentissage. Les cours durent entre 2 à 4 heures et sont constitués d’une conférence et un cours où les concepts sont appliqués sous forme d'exercices. Un étudiant à plein temps étudiera entre 20-40 heures par semaine qui s’agit d’entre 4 à 10 heures par matière.

La vie étudiante à l'Université de Queensland est fantastique. Être étudiant à cette université vient avec la possibilité de rejoindre une ou plusieurs sociétés parmi les 220 qui existent . Je suis membre de plusieurs sociétés à l’université y compris l’Association étudiante Latino-Américane (LASA).  De très bons événements sont organisés dans des bars et clubs à Brisbane ainsi que différents congrès linguistiques, en Espagnol, Portugais et Brésilien. Je fais aussi partie de la société de l’économie qui consiste à assister à des événements organisés en collaboration avec des banques australiennes ainsi que des sociétés financières. Cela m’a offert l'opportunité de réseauter avec une grande diversité de personnes dans le domaine de la finance. L’association étudiante de UQ organise aussi plusieurs soirées. Une d’entre elles est la soirée toge qui se déroule à la fin de la semaine d’orientation et qui a toujours été un succès sans faille. 

Mon plus grand conseil pour réussir à l’université serait de se faire des amis et faire connaissance de personnes dans la même faculté. Les étudiants à l' UQ sont très accueillants et abordables. Un autre conseil serait de trouver les meilleurs endroits pour étudier sur le campus. Une bonne option serait l'Institut du Changement Global (GCI Bâtiment 20), c’est un endroit calme avec une architecture moderne.

Mon dernier conseil serait de profiter du campus que l’université offre. L’ UQ est entourée de l’arbre emblématique Jacaranda qui fleurit au printemps et couvre la Grande Cour OR ‘The Great Court’ .

La Grand Cour est au cœur de l’UQ et est l’un des meilleurs endroits pour retrouver des amis après les cours. Entouré d'arbres, de bancs en bois et de structures en grès, il accueille également de nombreux événements. 

UQ offre un environnement idéal pour réussir. Les six bibliothèques, les nombreux endroits d'étude, ainsi que les bâtiments ayant des espaces de travail dédiés à chaque faculté offrent aux élèves un environnement facilitant leur réussite. 

Dans l'ensemble, UQ est une université idéale pour poursuivre des études supérieures. Du personnel enseignant au campus lui-même et toutes les sociétés qui y sont présentes, je recommande vivement de visiter l'Université du Queensland si vous en avez l'occasion
